The whales I don't see but are out there / Las ballenas que no veo pero ahí están
My mother can speak to animals, and I’ve always wanted to learn how to do it. From her field trip in the Isabel island in the Mexican Pacific, my mom sends me audio messages and photographs of the times that she finds whales. Me, from Brussels, reply to her as an attempt to learn how to see whales even if they’re so far away. In this film I explore the ways of seeing what is invisible and understanding the world from my own gaze. Through it all, this is a film about growing up.
