Synopsis

The conflict between human and wild elephants is an intricate problem in Assam. Over the last ten years a total of 812 people and nine hundred elephants were killed due to such conflicts. There are more than 5700 wild elephants present in the forests of Assam. Besides, elephant population of Arunachal Pradesh is estimated to be 3000 to 4000, some of who also move into Assam particularly in the winter months.
