Synopsis: Akbar Padamsee, considered to be one of the pioneers of modern Indian paintings, made two abstract animation films accompanied by a soundscape in 1960s, films that were far ahead of their times. The more abstract of the two, Events in a Cloud Chamber, was lost after Padamsee lent out his only copy. Half a century later, Eventsin a Cloud Chamber by Ashim Ahluwalia is an attempt to retrace the first stepsin Indian experimental film with the help of Padamsee’s testimonials, archive footage and footage from the film that survived, Syzygy.
Director’s Bio: Ashim Ahluwalia is from Bombay, India. He studied film at Bard College in New York. His documentary on the call centre industry, John &Jane (2005), received a National award. In 2007 he was commissioned to work on a film & architecture installation for the 10th Venice Biennale. Miss Lovely his first fiction feature premiered at Cannes to wide critical acclaim. His second feature Daddy also garnered much attention.
